The economic and social crisis which has hit the vast majority of the industrialized (and developed) countries is more than a crisis; a profound change of our models of wealth creation is currently under way and must be an opportunity to become fully aware of the limits of the present system oriented towards profit maximization, short-termism and individualism. A reflection on the fundamental values of our society, our relationship to time, to ourselves, to the future generations and an analysis of our development models is required in order to allow the emergence of a new economic paradigm which would be more balanced, fair and responsible: a so-called economic "positive" in which the value created is not an end in itself but a means to meet superior ethical, altruistic purposes. This economy implies a long time horizon, replaces people at its heart and stands for a highly inclusive model at the service of the real economy. The positive economy is also and primarily another approach of knowledge transmission, education of tomorrow decision makers, the necessity to stop the pillage of natural resources, the respect of the biodiversity by inventing new energy solutions, rethinking the management of public goods such as water... These sustainability objectives must be shared by all, whether it be corporations, States and citizens in developed as well as developing countries. Most importantly, behind the call to save the planet, it is in fact all about saving mankind.
Resulting from the desire to give meaning to the economy, the Movement for a positive economy not only aims at bringing together those who already think and act in a positive way - CEOs, social entrepreneurs... - but also those who develop new concepts and business models, nurture and promote innovative initiatives contributing to the financing of all companies and favoring value and jobs. This positive economy seeks to promote sustainable relationships, knowledge sharing, and collaborative approaches based on the tremendous energies of economic, institutional, academic, cultural players, associations and the civil society.
